Brakes supports growth of Compass’ Junior Chef Academy

Foodservice wholesaler Brakes has confirmed its commitment to developing future culinary talent by continuing its partnership with Compass Group UK & Ireland for its Junior Chef Academy.

Aimed at children aged between 14 and 16 years old, the 10-week programme helps aspiring junior chefs embark on a transformative culinary journey, as well as helping to build confidence and foster creativity.

To date, 23 Junior Chef Academy programmes have been delivered across 10 regions, supporting supported over 300 young people with hands‑on culinary training, mentoring from Compass chefs, and a structured pathway into further education and apprenticeships.

Jonathan Foot, Director of Skills & Early Careers at Compass Group UK & Ireland, said: “Brakes has been an essential partner in the growth of the Junior Chef Academy. Its support allows us to reach more young people each year, particularly in communities where opportunities can be limited. The Academy is already changing lives, building confidence and inspiring future chefs, and Brakes’ continued sponsorship ensures we can scale this impact even further.”

Chris Pringle, Corporate Account Director at Brakes, said: “Supporting the Junior Chef Academy is something we are incredibly proud of. Food has the power to change lives, and this programme gives young people the chance to discover their talent, build confidence and see a future for themselves in our industry. We’ve seen first-hand how the Academy opens doors—whether that’s progressing into an apprenticeship, gaining work experience or simply developing skills that will stay with them for life.”

The Junior Chef Academy forms part of Compass Group UK & Ireland’s Social Promise, which aims to enhance opportunities for one million people by 2030. The Junior Chef Academy is part of its Classroom to Careers programme, designed to help young people develop the skills, confidence and opportunities they need to progress into sustainable and meaningful employment
