7. What’s the best and worst aspects of
your job?
The best aspects of my job is to see the
smiles on members and children’s faces,
knowing I have been able to contribute
towards achieving this by way of discounting
bar prices to suit their needs during
these troubled times. The worst aspect
is going home at 11pm (closing time).
8. What is your biggest gripe about the
club industry?
My biggest gripe has to be the smoking
ban and supermarket cut-price alcohol.
9. Are club managers paid a decent
wage or not?
My role is not about the wage, it’s about
serving the club and its members to the
best of my ability and in doing this the
end result is a happy, thankful members.
10. How has your club been affected by
the supermarkets selling cut-price alcohol
and the general stay-at-home culture in
the UK at present?
These have affected the club by a seven
per cent drop in trade. However, to compensate
this our brewery supplier has had
to give further discounts to the club.
11. Describe your fancy dress of choice.

12. How do you keep your members
interested in the club?
The most important factor regarding keeping
members interested in the club is to keep
them involved and informing them of any
changes, proposed or current.
13. How important is food to your business
and why?
We do not supply food. However, when
special functions are arranged, like a
senior citizens party, we use a catering
contractor.
14. You're on Death Row. Describe your
last meal.
Liver, onions and belly pork with creamed
potatoes and Brussels sprouts, nice fresh
bread to dip into the gravy followed by
apple crumble and custard washed down
by a pint of cold dark mild.
15. Apart from being on Death Row, what
is your greatest fear?
Snakes, even when they are on the television,
I have to switch off or change the
channel.
16. Which living person do you most
admire and why?
Lena Martell, a Scottish singer - in my
opinion there is no one more passionate
about their music and when seen in
cabaret, she captivates her audience.
17. Sum yourself up in a sentence.
A decent human being, serious, but with a
fun side.
18. Is the glass half full or half empty?
I am the sort of person who gets a kick out of
achieving success in all challenges and
more so knowing that the members at the
club are grateful and content.
19. What would your superpower be?
To see Adderley Green working men’s club
still flourishing and succeeding in 50 years.
20. How would you like to be
remembered?
As the person who took the club from a
debt of £10,000 to a healthy bank balance
of £500,000 and no loans/leases.
